What 13F data does and doesn't show

A 13F lists long positions in US-listed stocks, ETFs and listed options at quarter end. It omits short positions, cash, bonds, private companies and most non-US stocks, and it arrives up to 45 days after the quarter. The API keeps the latest 4 quarters per fund, the top 100 positions in each by value, totals for the whole report and the largest positions sold out. Tickers are matched to each CUSIP through OpenFIGI.

For trades filed within two business days, see the stock trades guide. Pro is $99/month on the developers page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 13F filing?

Form 13F-HR is a quarterly report that investment managers with more than $100 million in US-listed stocks must file with the SEC within 45 days of each quarter end. It lists their long positions and listed options at quarter end.

Is there an API for Warren Buffett’s portfolio?

Yes. GET /api/v1/people/warren-buffett/portfolio on the Billionaire Tracker API's Pro plan ($99/month) returns Berkshire Hathaway's latest 13F positions with weights and quarter-over-quarter changes, and Berkshire's Form 4 trades come from /people/warren-buffett/trades.

How current is 13F data?

A 13F shows positions on the last day of the quarter and can be filed up to 45 days later, so it is a delayed snapshot. For faster signals, Form 4 trades by 10% owners (like Berkshire) are filed within two business days.
