Billionaire stock trades API: track insider buys and sells

The Billionaire Tracker API Pro plan returns every SEC Form 4 stock trade by 70 billionaires as JSON — 23,651 transactions since 2023, each with shares, price, value, shares held afterwards and a link to the filing. It also returns their reported stakes, Form 144 planned sales and the 13F portfolios of the funds they run. The latest large sale: Charles Schwab sold 11,675 SCHW shares for $1.04 million on 2026-11-03.

What the SEC data covers

  • Form 4 trades — every buy, sale, option exercise, grant, gift and tax withholding by company officers, directors and 10% owners, filed within two business days.
  • Stakes — the shares each billionaire last reported, by company and by trust or LLC, valued at the latest market close.
  • Form 144 — notices of planned sales, usually filed on or before the sale day.
  • Schedule 13D/13G and 13F — 5%+ stakes and quarterly fund portfolios (see the 13F portfolio guide).

Build a sell alert

Poll once an hour with a filing-date cursor and keep the ids you have already seen:

JavaScriptconst seen = new Set();
async function check() {
  const since = new Date(Date.now() - 3 * 86400e3).toISOString().slice(0, 10);
  const url = 'https://billionairetracker.us/api/v1/trades?side=sell&minValue=5000000&filedSince=' + since;
  const { data } = await (await fetch(url, { headers: { Authorization: 'Bearer ' + KEY } })).json();
  for (const t of data) {
    if (seen.has(t.id)) continue;
    seen.add(t.id);
    notify(`${t.people[0].name} sold ${t.issuer.ticker} worth $${(t.valueUsd / 1e6).toFixed(1)}M`, t.url);
  }
}
setInterval(check, 60 * 60 * 1000);

Transaction codes

Every trade keeps the SEC code and a plain-English label. The ones you will see most:

  • P — Open-market or private purchase
  • S — Open-market or private sale
  • M — Option exercise or conversion of a derivative
  • F — Shares withheld to pay tax or exercise price
  • A — Grant or award from the company
  • G — Gift
  • C — Conversion of a derivative
  • J — Other acquisition or disposition (see footnotes)

Limits of SEC data

Form 4 covers insiders of US-listed companies only. A billionaire who leaves a board or drops below 10% stops filing, so their last reported stake is marked stale after a year. Private companies, foreign listings and personal brokerage accounts are not reported. Prices on Form 4 are often weighted averages across many trades in a day; the footnotes, included with every trade, give the range.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an API for billionaire stock trades?

Yes. The Billionaire Tracker API's Pro plan ($99/month) returns SEC Form 4 insider trades by 70 billionaires, including open-market purchases and sales, option exercises and gifts, with filters by person, ticker, side, date and value, plus CSV export.

How quickly do billionaire trades show up?

Insiders must file Form 4 within two business days of a trade. Billionaire Tracker checks SEC EDGAR several times each US trading day, so a trade usually appears within hours of its filing.

Can I get alerts when a billionaire sells stock?

Yes. Poll /api/v1/trades?filedSince=YYYY-MM-DD&side=sell, remember the ids you have seen, and notify on new ones. Form 144 notices at /api/v1/planned-sales often show a sale before the Form 4.

Which billionaires are covered?

70 billionaires who file with the SEC, including insiders such as Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Dell and Larry Ellison, and fund managers such as Warren Buffett, Bill Ackman and Ray Dalio. /api/v1/coverage lists everyone with their EDGAR CIK.

Why is SpaceX or LVMH missing?

SEC filings only cover US-listed companies. Private companies such as SpaceX, and companies listed abroad such as LVMH, do not file Form 4.
